A few months ago, I signed up for a website I found called Influenster. Basically, you share your blog and social media and also write reviews and answer questions about products. As you are doing this, your “score” improves. Well, I’ve been reviewing things every now and again and obviously doing the BB and Ipsy reviews on my blog, but I received an email that said that I had qualified to get picked to receive a Mary Kay box. I had to fill out a survey and give them my address and lo and behold, I actually got picked. (I think they chose close to 5,000 people, but that’s besides the point….I got one!)
The box arrived yesterday and was filled to the brim with Mary Kay products. Now I must disclose that I received these products complimentary for testing purposes from Influenster. So for all of you who say that I’m crazy for buying all of these boxes, this one was free and now I’m writing here to tell you about it.
Each box included the following products:
Mary Kay® Bronzing Powder
Mary Kay® Translucent Loose Powder
Mary Kay® Mineral Cheek Color
Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color in Apricot Twist
Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color/Concealer Brush
Mary Kay® Lash Love® Mascara
Mary Kay® Gel Eyeliner with Expandable Brush Applicator in Jet Black
Mary Kay® NouriShine Plus® Lip Gloss in Mango Tango
I tried them all yesterday, as my mother sat there and giggled at me, but I’ll give you my thoughts anyways.
Bronzing Powder
I’ve been using Urban Decay bronzer of late and I’m actually running out so this was an added perk to receiving this product. With the powders came a powder brush as well which is a really nice brush. I really liked the color of the bronzer. It didn’t make me look too orange and it blended really well. It complimented well with the Mineral Cheek Powder. Overall, nice product, I approve.
Translucent Loose Powder
I’ve never been one to use a powder after I put my makeup on. It tends to give my face that cake-y look. Not so attractive. I used a minuscule amount of this powder over my makeup and actually I couldn’t tell it was there, which I think is the point. It helped the makeup to set and didn’t look like I had been nose-diving in products all afternoon.
Mineral Cheek Color
As I said earlier, this color complimented the bronzer really well. It’s a nice pink color that doesn’t look too harsh but adds a little brightness to the look. Blush is running low too, so I was happy to receive this product as well!
Cream Eye Color in Apricot Twist
I’ll be outright in saying that I am not a big eyeshadow girl. The fact that I’m severely myopic adds to the fact that I can barely see my eyelids when I’m 6 inches from the mirror. However, I used the eye color with the cream brush that came with the box and it went on very smoothly. I can’t say that it looked good, (this may be the part where my mother was laughing at me,) but it went on well and while I wasn’t sure about the color initially which looked like a deep gold, it was rather light with a slight shimmer which was not nearly as hideous as I was anticipating.
Lash Love Mascara
Ahhh….here is my home base. Mascara. Loved this mascara. It definitely made my lashes look fuller and longer and it was a deep rich black. I totally love this product. Two coats and I actually was satisfied. Usually, I use a couple different mascaras to get the fullness and length that I want but this got the job done so bravo!
Gel Eyeliner with Expandable Brush Applicator in Jet Black
Yikes. I was nervous about this one. It seems as though you need to be pretty adept to apply this and I wasn’t completely wrong. I’m going to have to play around with it for a bit but with the applicator brush, the eyeliner goes on very smoothly and in a thicker line than I’m used to so that’s where I need to work on it. I will say, it was not as difficult as I previously imagined and I actually had pretty good control and didn’t draw a line up to my eyebrows as I was envisioning myself doing.
NouriShine Plus Lipgloss in Mango Tango
How do I say this nicely? No. Just no. This color is like fire engine red. Not my style. Looks like my lips are bleeding…not a look I’m going for. As for the composition of the product, it’s a bit sticky, which for a lipgloss I’m just not interested in. Perhaps in a different color, layered over a balm I would be happier but this is the product that was my least favorite. Sorry MK!
Overall, this box is a great value and it showed me that my view of Mary Kay as an “older” ladies brand is incorrect. They have rebranded and are focusing on a much younger audience and I think this is a smart move. No longer will I hear Mary Kay and just think of pink Cadillacs! Thank you to Influenster and Mary Kay for this awesome opportunity to review this box!
